Aikido -The Principle of Ideally Coordinated Energy

Aikido is a defensive japanese martial art that has its roots in the traditional martial arts of the samurai. It includes unarmed defense against both unarmed attacks (grabs, punches, kicks) and armed attacks (knife, sword, staff), as well as armed defense using sword or staff.

Aikido is a peaceful martial art that does not teach any offensive techniques, but defense and immobilization techniques. It thus mediates a corresponding defensive and responsible mental attitude. The goal is to channel and use the power of the attack is such a way that the opponent is temporarily unable to perform further attacks without doing him any harm.  This gives the attacker the opportunity to realize the futility of his attack and to refrain from further aggression.
Although the aikidoist is also capable of seriously harming an attacker, he deliberately decides to spare him. He does so by warding off the attacker using throws and securing him using immobilization techniques.

The founder of Aikido, O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, put it this way:

O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba True budo is not for the purpose of destroying an opponent; it is far better to defeat an opponent spiritually and then he will gladly abandon his attack. (Morihei Ueshiba Budo)

We are affilliated with the Aikido Föderation Deutschland AFD.
